Derrick Meadows.

Derrick Meadows is a creative technologist and video engineer. Through Dot Matrix, LLC, he runs graphics, playback and media servers for live events, and he designs and builds websites, apps and interactive tools. When the event calls for it, he performs as DJ Diem, tying sound, image and light into one performance.

The practice

Derrick Meadows founded Dot Matrix in 2019. Since then he has run graphics for more than two hundred credited shows, most of them corporate general sessions, for over thirty production partners.

A general session follows the show caller’s cues. A live visual performance responds to the music. He works both the same way: every cue built to fire on the call, and a show file ready to pivot when the run of show changes.

When a show needs custom graphics, a content pipeline or a tool that doesn’t exist yet, he designs and builds it to the standard he’ll run it to. When the job needs a crew, he brings in operators he trusts.

The core of the work is show graphics and playback: playback in Mitti and PlaybackPro; media-server work in Millumin and Resolume; live production and switching in vMix; presentation systems from PowerPoint and Keynote to ProPresenter; LED and projection mapping; and hybrid broadcast with recording on Ki Pro and Epiphan hardware.

He has built websites and worked in live production since 2004. On the IATSE Local 22 referral list since 2015.
