High-stakes news production leaves very little room for a cue to live in the wrong system.

The standard show setup treats Millumin as the cue stack and timeline: LED backgrounds, downstage monitor (DSM) messages, voice of God (VOG), transition music, playback video, stream music and pre/post-show house music are organized as one coordinated cue stack, with vMix, Dante, Companion and DMX connected around it.

The timeline is not only a stack of background plates.

It holds the moments around the content: the voice that brings a guest on, the walk-on and walk-off music, the announcement that needs to hit the room, the lighting state that makes the stage readable and the return to house music after the segment. A layered cue structure makes those relationships visible before the show starts.

The engineering design was the client’s; the execution was mine.

I built the cue stack to their specification and routed the audio in software after the lead audio engineer’s (A1’s) patch. The engineer in charge (EIC) built the lighting address groups in advance, and I mapped Millumin cues to fire their DMX values through a USB interface. Every preset cue — music, video, lighting and screens — came from the media server. The microphones and the camera movements were run by other engineers.
